If you've taught at a HobbyScool summit or in the Craft & Create Club, you can record one short video teaching a project and we'll post it on our channel with your business and your free gift linked right under it.
We're building up the HobbyScool YouTube channel and I'd love to feature you on it.
You record one video where you teach a short project and share a little about your art and your business. We post it on the HobbyScool channel, link your free gift and your website under it, and send you the link the day it goes live so you can share it with your own audience.

What goes in your video
Videos run 10 to 20 minutes. They start with the project and get into teaching right away, because that's what keeps people watching on YouTube. The introduction line and the closing line are the same for every instructor, so please say those word for word. Everything else is yours, so talk the way you normally would when you teach.
01 The hook First 15 seconds
Start by showing the finished project up close, then say:
"Today I'm going to show you how to make [your project], and [one reason they'll want to make it, like 'it only takes about 20 minutes']. I'm [your name] from [your business name], and welcome to HobbyScool. Let's get started."
Keep the opening short, because this is where people decide whether to keep watching.
02 Supplies Under 1 minute
Walk through what you're using today, and let people know the full list is in the description below the video. Send us your supply list when you submit and we'll add it for you.
03 The demo 8 to 16 minutes
Show how to make the project step by step.
- Say what you're doing as you do it
- Show the tricky steps up close
- Mention common mistakes and how to fix them
- Speed up the slow parts like drying time in editing
Somewhere in the middle, during a natural pause, share a little about yourself for 30 to 60 seconds: how you got started with your craft and what kind of work you make now.
04 Your business and your free gift About 1 minute
Once the project is finished, show it one more time and then say:
"If you enjoyed making this, [business name] is where I [what you sell or teach]. And I have a free [name of your gift] for you. It [one sentence on what it is]. The link is in the description below."
Your gift has to be free with no purchase required. A pattern, template, mini class or checklist you already give away works great.
05 Closing About 30 seconds
"Thanks so much for making this with me. HobbyScool runs a free creative summit every month with dozens of instructors like me, and you can get on the list for the next one at the link below. And subscribe to the HobbyScool channel so you don't miss the next video."
Then smile at the camera for a couple of seconds before you stop recording. We use those last few seconds for the subscribe button.
Recording checklist
Every video is reviewed before it goes up, and it needs to follow the script above and meet this checklist to be posted on the channel.
- Film horizontally (16:9), in 1080p or higher
- Put your light in front of you, so a window or lamp facing you instead of behind you
- For the demo, set up a camera above your work surface or close enough that people can clearly see your hands
- Record in a quiet room with your phone or mic close to you
- No music in the background, including music playing in the room, because YouTube flags songs even when they're quiet
- Save the video as an MP4 or MOV file
The fine print
When you submit your video, you'll check a box on the form and type your name to accept the YouTube Video Feature Agreement. Here's the short version:
- You keep ownership of your video.
- HobbyScool can post it on our YouTube channel and keep it up, share short clips from it, and earn ad revenue from it. You're not paid for the video.
- Your video needs to be made new for HobbyScool and not posted on YouTube anywhere else, including your own channel. You're welcome to share the link to our video as much as you like.
- Everything you teach and show in the video has to be yours to share, and your free gift has to be free with no purchase required.
- Your video has to follow the script and the recording checklist to be posted, and we may ask for changes first.
- If you ever want your video taken down, email us at partnerships@hobbyscool.co and we'll take it down within 30 days.
Three steps and you're done
Record your video
Follow the script and the recording checklist above.
Upload it
Put it in Google Drive or Dropbox and set the sharing so anyone with the link can view and download it.
Fill out the form
You'll add your video link, your free gift link, your supply list, a photo of your finished project and a headshot, then accept the agreement and sign with your typed name.
What happens after you submit
We watch every video before it goes up to make sure it follows the script and the recording checklist. Videos that don't meet them aren't posted. If something needs to be fixed we'll email you, and if it's all set we'll email you the date it goes live. On that day we'll send you the link so you can share it.
